Backstory
Blaise’s father was, like many of the Deneuve family, an ambassador. He spent many years of his life in Vodacce, and even married a Strega from a minor line related to the Vestini, where he worked.
Whilst his father taught him the necessary skills to be a noble, his mother and a steady stream of nannies, aunts and maidservants taught him how to get away with things under the noses of people watching him.
This strange education led him to look at the apparently jovial nature of court and nobility in Montaigne and see the hidden depravity and social violence beneath it. This repulsed him, and he decided that it needed to be changed: nobility was supposed to be the point of nobles, and he would try to make nobles noble again.
What makes your character a hero?
He’s opposing the hedonism and excess of the Sun King’s court from inside it, trying to persuade people to go against their own pleasure while being immersed in a culture that every day tries to persuade him that he’d be better off just letting things go they way they always have, and enjoying himself.
Who or what will oppose your character?
L’Empereur will dislike anyone who is trying to tell him that he’s wrong. Many nobles will ridicule this youngster for wanting to give up on pleasure. However, his biggest opponent will be a devout churchman who considers that his link to both Montaigne and Vodacce sorcery makes him intrinsically sinful.
How will your character die?
Assuming that the Montaigne revolution comes, he’ll likely become involved in trying to make the new country a better place for everyone, even nobles. He’ll get involved in the first new government but will eventually say the wrong thing at the wrong time, and be condemned to Mme Guillotine during one of the purges in the Terror.
