Here's an initial draft of my thoughts on how the Professor's stories might go. I'm not sure on what format we should be using, hope this works. Please comment let me know if I'm missing something, or if you need something different.
1. At the University
de València y Villanueva has recently arrived in Montaigne and used "Tenure" to establish himself at the Sorbonne (or whatever the Montaignard equivalent is). As he is seeking patronage from the local nobility, he makes the acquaintance of the faculty there in hopes of getting an introduction at court.
- Perhaps there is some scholarly problem that he can help solve.
- Perhaps he takes a new student; a young person who is unlettered but intelligent, perhaps, but cannot afford university fees.
- Perhaps a scholar in Professor de la Cuesta's faction is already here and stirs up trouble.
- Or perhaps de València y Villanueva discovers a book in the library here that de la Cuesta recently read, with Significantly Underlined Passages hinting at the nature of his nefarious plot.
- He might meet other player characters at the University.
2. At the Court
Having secured an invitation to the Court of the Sun Emperor, de València y Villanueva looks for a nobleman willing to sponsor his research into improved alchemical agricultural methods. He might also learn something useful for Los Vagabundos.
- Perhaps he accidentally offends a courtier or a duelist; his shoes were too pointy or not pointy enough, he bumped into someone by accident, something like that.
- Perhaps he hears rumors about strange curiosities hidden in the ruins below Charouse. Sure, they're closed off by decree, but...the quest for knowledge does not recognize such bounds!
- It turns out de la Cuesta has friends at court, too. Influential ones.
- Perhaps he is gallantly polite to an elderly matron, who misunderstands his actions as flirtation and becomes convinced that they are madly in love with each other.
- He might meet other player characters at Court.
- The duke has a perfect farming village for de València y Villanueva's experiments! There's just one drawback.... it's in drought/plagued by locusts/mortgaged to the Bank of Eisen/overrun by bandits/whatever.
2a. Ruins below Charouse? It's completely safe to explore these catacombs, isn't it?
2b. Elderly lady's boudoir? Oops, how did I get here? Hijinks ensue.
3. At a remote farming village
Well, gonna have to solve the drought/locust/mortgage/bandit/whatever problem before starting any alchemical experiments! Also we need to choose another farm village that doesn't get alchemical treatments, to use as a control group. Otherwise it's not science!
4. Profit?
