Professor Enrique Alejandro de València y Villanueva arrived at the splendid Palais gardens at mid-morning. It was a sunny spring day, with clear blue skies; the weather itself deferred to the wishes of the Sun King, who had commanded that his court be held outdoors that day. The nobility and gentry of Montaigne strolled slowly through the beautiful gardens. Liveried servants moved among them bearing trays of light refreshments.
Among the gold and bright colors worn by the proud nobility, de València's stark black academic robe gave him the aspect of a crow among bluebirds. Nevertheless, the Castillian was undaunted as he moved to join the crowd, looking for Blaise Deneuve du Surlign - a skilled courtier whom a friend had recommended he seek out in Charouse.
Finding his way to a large white fountain near the center of the gardens, the Professor paused to gaze about his surroundings. With a geometer's eye, de València mentally partitioned the gardens into polygons of equal area; searching each polygonal region in turn would be certain to lead to finding du Surlign, he reasoned. With this in mind, he approached towards a group of people in the first of these regions....

(Apologies for the delay, been away on holiday for a bit)
Blaise's dark yet stylish outfit stands out amongst the brightly-coloured dresses and robes of the courtiers as he moves around the garden, making connections and trading favours. His left hand and arm is still bandaged, and he manages to parley the questions into an opening to discuss banditry, peasants and imply heroism without exactly claiming it.
As de Valencia approaches, Blaise is the centre of a group of pretty women, "...and if it hadn't been for the Eisen distracting the vile kidnapper, I would not have had the chance to shoot him. It was a lucky shot, really, I'm no Musketeer." "Good Afternoon, it is Professor, I believe? You were there as well, I think, can you tell us more of M. Nibelsang's heroism? It is stylish to adore a hero these days," he says, while gesturing with his bandaged hand. "And, I apologise that I cannot make formal introductions as we do not have the chance to be properly introduced, what with the bandits."

Bowing to du Surlign and the ladies surrounding him, the Castilian introduced himself. "Professor Enrique Alejandro de València y Villanueva, at your service. But, regretfully, I must apologize, for I must disappoint you; I am not yet acquainted with Señor Nibelsang. Bandits, you say? A terrible plague on the land. Men of low character, who would prey upon others!" "I see the mark of your courage against them," he added, indicating the Montaigne's wounded hand. "I hope you dealt with them severely."
(OOC: I joined the game a little late and so wasn't in the first scene)

(OOC: Apparently you look proferssory then ) Blaise takes the letter, checks then breaks the seal and reads it. "So you know my cousin Lamont then? It's good to hear from him. I can absolutely introduce you to people! What sort of people do you want to speak to? No, wait, I should introduce you to these pretty ladies first." Blaise indicates each one as he names them, still using his bandaged hand "Oriane Praisse du Rachetisse; Linda Michel du Gloyure; Béatrice Gaulle dul Motte." They each present their hand but giggle behind their fans.

The Castilian professor bowed and murmured over each of the ladies' hands. "Mademoiselle Oriane ... Mlle. Linda-Michel ... Mlle. Béatrice. It is indeed a pleasure to make your acquaintance," he said courteously. "I fear I am but only lately arrived to Charouse, so I know very few people as of yet; but to be welcomed by such lovely ladies is heartwarming indeed. The flowers of the palace gardens must hang their heads in shame when compared to such rare beauties as yourselves."

Blaise smiles at Enrique's compliments, "It has, as always, been a pleasure meeting with you ladies. Perhaps tomorrow, or later?"
Then he turns and leads the Professor to a more private location, "So, what sort of person are you looking to meet, other scholars? visiting foreigners? or shall we go back to the young eligibles?"

"Time spent making the acquaintance of beautiful young ladies is never wasted," the Professor replied. "But in truth, it is my hope to find a noble patron who would be willing to sponsor my alchemical research."
"I have developed an alchemical preparation for use in agriculture with the potential to triple crop yields," the Castilian explained. "Imagine! The specter of starvation could be defeated at a single stroke! My initial trials have been very promising, but .. I need to conduct a larger scale experiment to confirm the results. For this I need the financial backing of a gentleman of some means. Ideally, a nobleman with an interest in the natural sciences, and with a country estate that could be used for such an experiment."
"I know few people at the Sun Court," de Valencia said with a sigh. "But I am told you know it well, M. du Surlign. I hope you might be able to help me in this matter? I should be greatly in your debt."
