Hearing the crack of Finn's whip the kidnapper looks over, momentarily distracted, letting the girl pull loose a bit. Alas, it looks like she will be quickly recaptured but then a gunshot rings out over the field, and the bandit crashes to the ground, bleeding. "Thank you, sir," Blaise shouts up to Finn, "I would not have taken the shot while he held her so close! But you must excuse me, the fair maiden needs recovered," and he dashes off, smoking pistol in his bloodied hand.

From the shadows, Amerigo sets to doing what he does best - removing obstacles silent. Flitting from tree to shadow, he worked his way around silently, carefully picking out the targets that were most heavily distracted by their apparent "victory." While the bandits lorded over the merchants they thought they had secured, Amerigo seized their lack of focus to subdue them from behind. Grabbing a fallen tree-limb, he set to to repositioning said limb on the back of the heads of a particularly nasty group of men.

Finn's shouting reached Alex just as he was still trying to bring some sort of an order to the remaining civilians. After a quick glance he spotted the dangling end of the whip and the merchant who halfheartedly tried to pull on it. "I am on it, Herr Nibelsang!" He shouted over, gently moving the merchant to the side. "Thank you for your brave stepping in, Sir, but now please get back to the others we will be back with you shortly." Slinging the whip over one shoulder, Alex pulled with all his weight and muscle. The carriage slowly but surely lifted from the ground until it came crashing back down onto its wheels. That should do it.
I spend a raise to lift the carriage back up. Leaving me at 1 raise.

The maiden, on the other hand, seems rather shell-shocked, as a bullet passed her by closely, and looks about confused and disoriented. On closer inspection, those with a trained eye can see and smell the signs of a good upbringing - well-tailored clothes and an expensive parfume give away wealth behind the fascade of a simple travel cloak.
The man on the ground whinces and tries to grab her cloak, only to receive a swift kick in return - and a couple of others for good measure, as the frantic woman will have none of it. However, with the feriocity of the attack being staved off, desperation takes over, as another goon cries out and charges towards the woman in an attempt to still reach her. Others try to join him, but the rallied merchants and travellers delay their advance with a volley of tossed stones and merchandise of various nature.
The merchant in front, in contrast, is wearing clothes that are hard to ruin by something so little as a near-death experience. Slowly, a more healthy color returns to his head, despite his ears retaining a mild violet shade.
"Thank you." He gasps forth, looking over his crashed car now that he has the time.
"Oh no." he stammers, kneeling down in all his wares - mostly produce, cheese, milk, and other now unidentifiable foodstuffs turned into a mixed paste, spilled forth by the sudden crash "My cabbages!"
He picks up and holds a single half-mushed and milk-drenched cabbage leaf, unable to express his grief in any other way.

Alex will have to spend 2 raises for improvising outside of his original approach, leaving him with 0 raises.
Friederike (Weaponry/Resolve): 2 raises -dealt with 2 goons La Moruna (Weaponry/Panache): 0 raises -out-danced 4 goons Alex (Warfare/Brawn): 0 raises -rallied the crowd to avoid further casualties -saved the merchant in front Amerigo (Hide/Wits): 0 raises -ambushed and neutralized 3 goons Finn (Notice/Finesse): 1 raise -created "maiden" opertunity -created "merchant" opertunity Blaise (Aim/Resolve): 0 raises -ran off 1 goon -saved the maiden Francois (Convince/Resolve): 0 raises -convinced 1 goon to not throw away his life for this. Considering the turn of events, he will thank you later.
There is only a single brute squad left, strength 1.

Cabbages everywhere. The perfect, very vitamin rich, winter vegetable. For a split second seeing his grief unfold, I feel really sorry for the merchant. That many cabbages would have fed lots and lots of people. But let's not get distracted here. Most of the bandits have been taking care of, and I haven't even had a chance to speak to them yet!! And as far as I understand, those poor bandits probably have some kind of boss and maybe that boss knows other bandit bosses! So I sure as hell get one of those crooks to talk.
I would like to use my 2 left raises to just straight on tackle a goon and pinning him down on the ground to try to have a chance on talking to one of them.

Finn is quite suprised as the cart suddenly lifts, and he heads to help the man out before it comes back down, only to realize that someone actually just forced back into drivable position. Slightly baffled how enough people to accomplish that feat gathered so quickly, and seeing the merchant recovering fast enough to worry about his goods rather than his life, he gets up. Quickly he unties his whip and pulls it over the wagon, heading to the other side of the cart, to find Alex on his own, dusting off his hands off. "An amazing feat of strength, my friend. " he nods in deep respect, before making his way off to the back of the carts.
His eyes show him the maiden, who seems to be save enough now, her attacker lying in the grass besides her. Blaise standing next to her, helping her reach back to the trail of wagons. He hurries over to them.
"Please allow me to help." He extends his hand to them, offering to gently guide alongside Blaise. "My name is Finn Nibelsang, may I ask you what yours is, fair lady?" He speaks, revealing to her that his trained eyes recognize her as one of standing.
(Spending my last raise to create the opportunity : Talk with the now rescued girl! : Well the danger is handled, but this girl is no ordinary peasent. While still in shock, she could be convinced to share her heritage, name and possible information with anyone willing to help calm her down.
Left at 0 raises)

The last goon was in full sprint when a very, very resolute Eisen woman asked him to spend some time with her - on the ground. An invitation that was not easily refused. It would be a few minutes until he recovered enough to come to.
And with that, the last of the ambush broke ranks and routed, while under steady barrage of thrown items from the caravan. As the last one left their reach, the people cheered and a lot of backs were pat, particularly of the two Eisen to show immense fighting spirit, whereas a few people kneeled down at la morunas feet to ask for blessings and pray - or pushing to make donations. But overall, only the most subtle of heroes escaped a "thank you" and shaken hand here and there for their aid.
"Thank you, kind sir" the rescued woman spoke, breaking her gaze away from the bleeding goon frantically crawling away from her, offering a smile as graceful as she could muster after all this stress "I am Vivianne Noire. I cannot thank you enough for your help."
---
The ambush has been broken, and noone on your side of the field was killed! If you would like to apply for hero points, you can do it now, and it is free-for-all RPing as the merchants and travellers gather their belongings and clear the road to continue. You can engage NPCs or PCs in conversation at your leisure.

Post by Francois on Nov 9, 2016 23:41:18 GMT
Watching the retreating form of the reluctant bandit fleeing back to Charouse, Francois poked around the site of the battle, looking for any abandoned or discarded items that he might be able to resell back in town. After all a boy had to eat, and if the man he set free came looking for assistance as Francois had offered, it wouldn't do to be caught out short of coin.
His task completed, and his arms burdened with weapons, Francois allowed himself to be distracted by the celebration of the wagoneers' victory over the devious attack of the peasants. Hoping that they wouldn't confuse him with one of the attackers (since he was not travelling with the wagon) he wandered over to see if he could catch a lift back to the city.
"Salut mes amis.*" He hailed the caravan in general, hoping that someone would take notice of (and potentially pity on) the little waif like boy, a role he played well enough when required.
((OOC GM: Does Francois fulfill - "Earn a Hero point when you put yourself in danger to ensure someone else doesn't have to be alone." For sending the bandit home to avoid orphaning his family?)) ((OOC Translation: Hello my friends))

Blaise gives a short bow, "Madamoiselle Noire, it is the least we could do. But come, you will be wanting to sit down any moment now, and we don't want you to risk being kidnapped again: you must complete your journey to Charouse in my carriage. Monsieur Nibelsang, you may join us if you wish."
As he returns to the carriage, Blaise tosses his pistol onto one of the seats before holding the door open for his guest(s) to enter. Then he takes a small bowl, a jug of water and a bottle of brandy outside. He washes his hands clean, then hisses as he pours some of the brandy over the deep cut in his left hand. Then joins the others inside.
"Well, it's open now, does anyone want a drink? Also, could I ask for a hand with this, well, hand? it needs a bandage."

"I can't help but notice the fine nature of your clothing, even though it appears plain, are you also on your way to the Sun King's court? i believe that having an unexpected ally by your side when you arrive would be a good idea."

Whoops, I think I've tackled too hard! Knocked-Out he isn't doing any good for me.
Soon enough, people have started thanking me and I really appreciate it. I look around and I see Blaise, my contractor, has already made acquaintance with a beautiful lady! Way to go Blaise! I'm sure he's fine so I choose not bother him in his conversations.
I'm taking the goon, while he's still unconscious, a little off-side and make him gain his consciousness. I will not tie him up.. he stands no chance without his crew so he better be not too foolish! Just like my father did, when we were groggy in the early mornings, having to milk the cows, I poured my whole water skin over his head. I look at him closely. His face is marred with dust and blood and scars. He's been fighting for his life and maybe for other peoples lives as well.
Just as I see his eyes twitching... "Hey!!! You! Listen up. I have a single question for you. Once you've answered it, you can leave the way you came here. So. WHO are you working for?"
(I'm taking a risk here to get the information I need from him, I suppose?)

Finn gladly joins on the ride. Sitting on half a ton of rock for a day was neither informative nor comfortable, so a nice, polstered seat was a nice change of pace.
At Blaises showing him the cut hand, he seems slightly suprised. Then he remembers, the sorcery from earlier. So this deep is how you have to cut?
With a schooled eye and a soft grip he investigates the wound, getting out some medical utensiels from his pack. "A clean cut, I doubt it will get infected" He says quietly, more to himself, as he smells the brandy and internally argues with himself that drinkable alcohol makes for a poor makeshift proper disinfectant, but will probably be enough this time. "However, it is quite deep. You should expect an extended recovery time." Finn starts to bandage the hand professionally with trained movements, occasionally looking back to the woman but focusing on his task for the moment.
(I dont think there is any risk involved in treating this wound, but I can roll scholarship if necessary)

Leonor rushes towards wounded nobleman, taking a look. She frowns, eyes flickering with suspicion.
"I was surrounded by too many burly men to notice, but sir, how did you manage to get such a nasty gash so far away from the fight? Did you try to catch a francesca* with your bare hands."
Her lips thinned, knowing the more likely explanation. This was sorcerer country after all.

The goon looked up at the Eisen woman with dazed eyes
"I... uh..." he tried to weight his options, before finally sighing and looking up.
"Beatrice. I work for Beatrice." he finally stammers forth between rotten teeth
Meanwhile, Vivianne seems content to follow the man in his obviously guarded carriage, quickly taking a seat to allow her body to recover from what she just went though.
"Thank you, kind sir." she spoke in a soft voice "The eye of a noble is an eye for details, as my father uses to say. I'm travelling to the court, yes, but only to return to my father who will attend to it for... ah, reasons that are beneath your ears, I am sure. He's a jewelier - one of the best - and so he attends out of business interest. I am sure, that... perhaps..." she trailed off a bit, falling silent for a moment "I am sure he will be thankful for your assistance today. I know I am."

I don't see the hero points for Francois and Blaise. Don't fret it though, there will be more opertunities in the future. You can also always waste dice so that I buy them from you!

"Well, does anyone else need help with their wagon?", Alex shouted, dusting off his hands after straightening another wagon. He took off the sweaty armyshirt, throwing it over his shoulder. Helping out the merchants had proved to be quite tiring. But it seemed that most wagons were back on track or out of the way and the voyage could soon be continued. Some merchants would have to huddle together as a few carts were unusable now and some merchandise had surely been trashed. But they would all reach Charouse alive and well.
After his work was done, Alex jogged over to the others, rounding up the people on the way, telling everyone to get ready to travel again soon.
(OOC: I suppose helping out the merchants in fixing wagons and repacking merchandise is not risky right? Did I perhaps trigger my "Take command in a situation of extreme violence or danger" quirk?)
